Tips for Cleaning Bathroom Shower Curtains

Are your bathroom shower curtains looking a little dingy and kind of starting to feel dirty?

Even though you may shower everyday they still need to be cleaned. Have you ever wondered how you go about cleaning them? Don’t feel bad we have all been there and had to go through the process of figuring out how to it.

It isn’t very difficult and can be done without too much stress. Depending on what type of cool shower curtains you have will dictate how you need to clean it. Some of the cheaper plastic kinds are often easier to just throw out. Trying to wash these in a machine will only shred them.

If yours is made of polyester or some other type of fabric then you should be able to just toss it into the wash machine and let it hang to dry. Never dry them in the dryer unless you know it will not affect your shower curtains.

Vinyl shower curtains are a little trickier and need to be wiped down with a damp cloth and soap water on a regular basis. I have heard of people throwing them in the wash machine with no ill effect, but I would advise caution and that you do so only at your own risk because it could easily damage your curtain.

If wiping it down seems like too much of a chore and you have no issues with bleach you can spray them down with it. I don’t recommend this method, but it does work well to remove black mold and mildew quite effectively I might add. A safer method would be to use oxygen bleach and soak your curtain in it for 20 minutes to half an hour then rinse it off.

Oxygen bleach is a much safer method and its non toxic to the environment as well as most shower curtain materials, which is a real plus in my books.

Whatever method you try, I recommend you always verify your method with the bathroom shower curtains manufacturer to see if it would be safe to use. Or you can experiment if you are not afraid of having to buy new shower curtains each time you go to clean them, or until you find a method that works.
